Half-Life Weapon Guide

Crowbar. Surprisingly effective weapon, the crowbar is perfect for quickly dealing with any fragger trapped in a corner.
Aim for the head for maximum damage or frustrate newbies by holding the duck button while you whack away and avoid the fire that’s looking for your head.
Pistol (9mm handgun). Some players switch to the crowbar until they find a better weapon, but we think the pistol has some
good use as a first weapon. Hold the second mouse button for rapid fire. The pistol is the most effective weapon for destroying tripmines (from a distance, please) which suggests that the pistol, in single fire
mode, has a great deal of accuracy.
Assault Rifle (9mmAR). Radiation weapons notwithstanding, the Assault Rifle is one of the most effective weapons in
Half-Life when using the secondary (grenade-launcher) feature. It takes some practice to aim the AR grenades right, and not kill yourself in the process but mastering this skill is one of the quickest (and
lag-forgiving) ways to Half Life respectibility. Aim AR grenades at an opponent’s feet to insure splash damage and follow up with conventional fire to finish him or her off.

Shotgun. Highly effective short-range weapon, we switch to the shotgun over the 9mmAR anytime we’re in a tight
hallway or need a one-shot frag. Use secondary fire to let off a double shot anytime you have someone dead in your sights. The downside: the shotgun only holds 8 shells and reloading can momentarily
interrupt your ability to fire.

Crossbow. Half-Life’s great sniper weapon, press the right mouse button once to enter sniper mode and the left mouse
button to fire. Left-mouse-only fire will let off an exploding bolt that can do some small splash damage. Although there is nothing more fun than scoping and dropping a sucker from a distance, there are a limited
number of maps for consistent sniping (ancient and sniper_c are two that come to mind).

Hivehand. The hivehand, or bee gun, releases heat-seeking bees which can be useful from medium-range against
opponents busy in a firefight. Secondary fire quickly discharges all the bees in a straight line. Hivehand users should be prepared for the homophobic and/or misogynistic remarks which inevitably follow.
Fraggers believe that hivehand use lags the server while others take exception to being felled by an effete weapon.

RPG (Rocket-Propelled Grenade, aka “The Rocket”). The rocket launcher is a great Half-Life weapon, often
misapplied. The object is not to hit a person directly, but to bounce the rocket off an object near that person. Aim for the ground beneath a person’s feet, the ceiling above his head, or an object close
by. If the first shot is not fatal, don’t bother waiting for the RPG to reload. Immediately switch to a weapon like the 9mmAR to finish him off. The right mouse button will toggle the laser sight on and
off.

Tau Cannon (aka “Gauss Gun”). THE most powerful HL weapon in the right hands. Hold the right mouse button to
charge the tau and release it to set off a powerful energy shot. The trick is, once again, not to aim at a person’s body, but to shoot a charged blast directly through a wall. Lambda’s Bubblemod calculates that a fully-charged wall-blast can do up to 1200 points of damage. Try sending a blast directly through a ceiling or floor to frag the unsuspecting (just make sure there’s a room above or below!). In a direct firefight, aim for the joints or nick the very edge where two walls meet to create a deadly energy spray. Perform a tau jump by sending a charged blast directly at your feet and enjoy the ride.

Gluon Gun (aka “Egon”). The second of Half Life’s energy weapons, hold the primary fire button to release a deadly energy
stream that can fry an opponent in seconds. Effective at any distance, but best used in narrow areas where your opponent has little room to run. High-pingers may be unenamored with the gluon’s firehose-like
controlibility.

Hand Grenade. A multiplayer weapon not to rely on, but servicable in a busy map where more coveted weapons are hard to find. Toss into a
busy room to clear out distracted fraggers or leave a trail to catch or discourage pursuit.
Tripmine. Punish the careless and boost your stats with a well-placed tripmine. Place trips around corners
(even straight up) or other places where fraggers will have a tough time seeing them. Nab experienced players by placing trips in unusual, even obvious, places. Careless tripmine placement on spawn
points will earn you the scorn of all involved.
Satchel. Chumpland’s preferred high explosive. Right mouse button sets a satchel and the left mouse button
explodes it. Set in dark areas to trap the unwary or, better yet, send satchels a distance by moving forward and jumping during the release. With enough practice, you’ll be dealing out satchels like so
many playing cards.
