Defensive Strategies

1. Always Be Moving. A sure way to a short online life is to stand around. From the moment you spawn, get a move on--even if you don’t know where you’re going.

2. Strafe Often. To the unfamiliar, the strafe keys allow you to dodge left or right. Holding a strafe key while moving your mouse will allow you to "circle strafe," or circle an opponent while firing away.

3. Fire While Backpedaling. Too many players make the mistake of turning from an opponent and running. Run backwards instead--it’s just as fast and you can still punish your harasser while seeking calmer climes.

4. Versus the Crowbar. Retreat to an open area and circle around, shooting the crowbar-equipped fragger along the way. Avoid walls or any corners where you might get trapped.

5. Versus the 9mmAR Grenades. AR grenades require a sufficient amount of room to safely discharge. Close that room by getting in your opponent’s face and sticking close to him, guaranteeing mutually assured destruction should he fire.

6. Versus the Shotgun. The shotgun loses its effectiveness over distance. Spread the distance between you and your opponent and select a ranged weapon like the 9mm Assault Rifle.

7. Versus the Crossbow. Move in an irregular pattern to avoid being tracked under scope. In a firefight get up close and to the side of the crossbow user where you won’t appear in his magnified view.

8. Versus the RPG. Get away from walls, boxes or other items that provide a splash damage opportunity. Try to increase your distance to make it tougher on depth perception. If all else fails, duck. An experienced player won’t fall for it, but too many players are still not cognizant of the benefits of splash damage and may be trying to hit you dead on.

9. Versus the Tau. Forgive us for belaboring the obvious but, don’t hide behind a wall. Look for an open area with few tau-fragmenting opportunities.
