BRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAP! SNAP! What’s that?
It’s the sound of the gluon gun. And in Subtransit, it’s everywhere. You have two choices: (1) Hog the gluon and dish out hurt by the bucketful, or (2) get used to it and revel in having your body parts
scattered everywhere at any time. Assuming (1) is your preference, read on.
MUST....GET....GLUON

The most hotly contested area in Subtransit is the large outdoor courtyard bisected by a monorail track. At the far side of the yard is the gluon, a whopping 40 energy units, and three (yes, three) health packs.
Overhead are two fine sniper spots, one at the end of a suspended conveyor belt and hosting the RPG in the niche at the far end.
Needless to say, this area is skirmish central, and he who crowns himself Gluon Glutton likely controls all. Of course, a good counter strategy is to scatter satchels and/or tripmines all over the monorail platform
where the gluon lies. Wouldn’t you think twice before fetching an item buried in high explosive charges? (I hope so).
HEV HOGS
A corollary to the always-grab-the-gluon rule on this map is also to be an HEV glutton. From the gluon courtyard, exit using the right-hand ramp (assuming your back is to the gluon itself). Make a right, go straight
a smidge, make a U-turn around the ladder you see (it leads up to a health station and the aforementioned conveyor belt and RPG), make your next right, zoom ahead through the health packs you see, make a right, then
two lefts. (Convoluted, but much, much easier than it sounds.) You should be in a long hall, hopefully with 2 HEV cells waiting to be picked up. You should also see a stone post midway up this hall, with an HEV
station on the inaccessible side. Fry anyone crazy enough to be using it.

Now here’s a dirty trick: You can fill up from this HEV panel on its back side. Yes, if you press the Use key while facing the side of the post opposite the actual station, you can fill up! It’s no big secret among experienced players, and 30 extra units of HEV are always handy, so help yourself. Another nasty trick, though it’s technically camping: Wait at the far end of the hall, gluon ready, just around the corner out of sight. Simply listen for the HEV activating, and when you hear it, turn the corner and unleash blistering gluon hell--there’s no cover for quite a ways for the victim.

At the end of the hall, make another U-turn, and you’ll be in a small room with a raised platform. At floor level are two health packs and a nice 30 units of energy to refill your busy tau or gluon. On the platform
is a shotgun. Running sprints up and down the HEV Horror Hall and into this room can get you bulked up and formidable in no time flat. Problem is, every Subtransit veteran knows this, and you won’t be lonely here
for long...
From this room, you can wander a circuit of Subtransit’s upper halls, but there’s little of interest there, barring a sniper perch (near the Magnum you’ll find) overlooking a large empty room. This room contains only
the (front) side of the aforementioned HEV station, and little else. (You can nail HEV gluttons from the sniper perch.) Otherwise, this large room leads down (via the two paths on either side of the HEV station,
running under the Horror Hall) to a monorail station; another path off the room leads to a platform (shotgun here) overlooking a flooded room, which, via a ramp at the far side, emerges into the infamous gluon
courtyard; and the ramp at the end leads out to a hall behind the gluon courtyard.
NEXT STOP, ARMAGEDDON
The monorail station is another messy spot. On the two platforms you’ll find loads of items--satchels, MP5, MP5 clips, health packs, and tripmines are the primary items of interest.
There’s also a health station in a niche, and, possibly, a monorail car parked there.
You can ride the monorail at your own risk. Jump in, and Use the controls. Pressing the up or down arrow accelerates or decelerates the vehicle. Feel free to move about the vehicle and unleash torrents of fire as you
ride the rails. Of course, you’re one dead Gordon if you run into a bored gluon-wielder.

Be very careful in the trench in the monorail station, especially if the train is moving! You will get crushed if you’re in the way, and you can only get out of the trench at the far ends of the room. The train at top speed will outrun you, and it’s embarrassing to have your name appear at the top of the screen in the frag toll with that little train icon next to it. Anytime you hear clacking, get the hell off the rails!
A small tip: Run along the rail once the train crosses the suspended rail over the flooded room containing the MP5 and four grenades (you’ll see it). You’ll find lots of goodies along the way. A niche
holds a health station and other sundry items, and there’s a very well-stocked area a bit further down. Just listen for the train, fer crying out loud. You can’t enjoy the items if yer dead.
